Ioanna Gouni-Berthold is Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Cologne, Germany and senior registrar at the Polyclinic for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Preventive Medicine. She received her training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine and Harvard Medical School and obtained a double Board Certification for Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.
Her main research interests include lipid disorders, diabetes and atherosclerosis. She has participated in more than 30 clinical trials on metabolic disorders and has been principal investigator and/or Steering Committee member in more than 10.
She has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed papers which have been published in Journals such as the JAMA, Lancet, Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, European Heart Journal, Diabetes Care, Journal of Lipid Research and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.
She is a member of the American Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, the German Endocrinology Society, the German Diabetes Society, the German Society of Internal Medicine and the European Atherosclerosis Society and sits on the editorial board of eight international Journals.
She serves as an Advisory Board Member of the German, Austrian and Swiss Society for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases (D-A-C-H Foundation for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases) and has served as an Expert-Reviewer of the European Commission Framework Programs on Life Sciences, Genomics and Biotechnology for Health.
